Amazon.com ReviewThe mountainous regions of southern France, historian Fernand Braudel observed, were settled earlier and more heavily than most other regions in the Mediterranean. The coastal town of Lattes, writes British archaeologist Cleere by way of example, has been settled since the early Neolithic, or nearly six millennia, its inhabitants then as now drawn by its handsome lagoons and fertile fields. Cleere describes 104 sites in the region, from the Gironde to the Maritime Alps, keying directions to the Michelin 1:200,000 series of maps. A few of those sites will be well known to travelers with an interest in ancient history: the Maison Carrée and the fine Roman arena at Nimes, for instance, or the great amphitheater at Arles. Other sites are less well known but of great historical significance, such as the stone hill forts on the Plateau de Jastres where the Arveni chieftain Vercingetorix suffered defeat at the hands of Julius Caesar, and the great limestone caverns at Le Mas d'Azil, where magnificent examples of late Magdalenian period cave art have been found. The book is illustrated with high-quality photographs, maps, architectural plans, and line drawings, and accompanied by sidebars explaining points of historical and cultural interest. This includes, for example, notes on the eerie Celtic "severed head cult" and the development of the Aretine pottery industry in southern France. The book makes a splendid companion for travelers seeking a window into the ancient past, one that will take them away from the crowds and into little-explored country. --Gregory McNamee BibMe: Free Bibliography & Citation Maker - MLA APA Using other peoples research or ideas without giving them due credit is plagiarism Since BibMe makes it easy to create citations build bibliographies and Masada - Wikipedia Masada ( metsada "fortress") is an ancient fortification in the Southern District of Israel situated on top of an isolated rock plateau akin to a mesa Primary Sources - Native American Studies Research Guide Primary sources are documents that were recorded or written down at the time an event occurred Primary sources can include diaries letters speeches photographs Archaeopress: Publishers of Academic Archaeology Gordon House 276 Banbury Road Oxford OX2 7ED England tel +44 (0) 1865 311914 fax +44 (0) 1865 512231 email: info@archaeopresscom Travel Yahoo Style I Wrote About Giving Up a $95000 Job to Move to an Island and Scoop Ice Cream I Wasn't Prepared for the Response Oxygen isotope in archaeological bioapatites from India Altmetric: 666; Views: 26171; Citations: 2; More detail Article Open Oxygen isotope in archaeological bioapatites from India: Implications to climate change and jpostcom/Article Banias - Wikipedia Banias (Arabic: ; Hebrew: ) is the Arabic and modern Hebrew name of an ancient site that developed around a spring once New Books - Native American Studies Research Guide Check the MSU Online Catalog for books videos and more Note that the MSU Online Catalog is a union catalog which includes the holdings of the Library of Michigan History of Angkor Angkor Temple Guides Freelance Guides " Angkor is the name of the ancient city where the groups of temples were built Angkor Wat is the name of a grestest temple in Angkor "
